I’ve been in London for 3 years and I still enjoy exploring the city. A place I always wanted to visit is the Wetland Centre in Barnes which is only a 15 minutes train ride from the centre.
The wetland reserve covers more than 100 acres of land and is home of many birds, otters and insects. I really enjoy being outside exploring wildlife and I quickly decided that this is one of my favourite places in London.
It’s a very peaceful place and I completely forgot that I’m in London. We spent hours feeding birds, watching otters getting their lunch and walking along the wetland ponds. They also offer free tours where you’re able to learn more about the inhabitants and seasonal wildlife. The tour usually starts at 2pm and is included in the admission price.
If you need a break of the hustle and bustle of London and you love nature as much as I do, this is the perfect place to go.
Fancy an ice-cream or a cuppa tea after a long day in the Wetland Centre? Nearby Barnes village has some cute coffee shops and restaurants. I certainly couldn’t resist and got an delicious wild berry brioche 😉
Have you been to the Wetland Centre before? Where do you go if you want to escape London?
