4 Reasons why you should travel solo at least once

Travelling with friends and family can be a lot of fun, but that doesn’t mean that travelling alone is less rewarding. Whether you’re heading to the beach for a tan, on a city break to see the sights, or a religious destination for a spiritual journey, there are so many benefits of heading off alone. Don’t believe me? Keep reading to find 4 reasons why you should travel solo at least once.

1. You’ll meet more people

The biggest fear that most people have when heading off alone is that they won’t know anybody. While this is completely understandable, you shouldn’t let it hold you back. If you’re travelling in a group, or even just with a partner, you’ll likely stick to yourselves and will make less of an effort to talk to other people. Because of this, locals or other travellers will also avoid talking to you, as they won’t want to impose. A solo traveller, on the other hand, is much more approachable, so people will be more likely to chat to you, making it much easier to make friends.

2. Your confidence will grow

Travelling with someone else means that you’ll always have someone around to order your food, check you into your hotel, and help you find your way around. Of course, it’s nice to share responsibilities, but travelling alone has the big benefit that you will step out of your comfort zone. If you’re by yourself, you have to do all of these things yourself, and deal with any problems that may arise, which will help you grow your confidence.

3. You can focus on your journey

When travelling with other people, it can be a little more difficult to focus on the journey itself and your surroundings which is especially important if you’re travelling for personal or spiritual reasons. If you’re looking to do a pilgrimage  for instance Umrah, you might wonder ‘Can I travel alone for Umrah?‘. The answer is yes, of course, you can, so travelling solo shouldn’t hold you back doing it.

4. You have complete control

When you’re travelling with someone else, you need to consider them in every decision you make. You need to find a hotel that suits all your financial needs, you need to agree on sights to see, and if you want to change the plans for the day, you have to discuss it first. This can cause tension or even arguments on the trip. Travelling alone means that you only have to consider yourself, and can do as you please and what makes you happy.

Travelling alone can be daunting, but it’s incredibly rewarding. If you haven’t travelled alone yet, this is something you should definitely consider for your next trip.
